Repair of the Marine Drive Link Bridge over FW De Klerk Boulevard in Woodstock
04 November 2024
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise road users and members of the public of repairs to the Marine Drive Link Bridge over the FW de Klerk Boulevard in Woodstock. The work is planned to take place from today, 4 November 2024 until Wednesday, 6 November 2024 between 19:00 and 05:00, weather permitting and provided there are no unforeseen delays. There will be partial lane closures on Marine Drive Link Bridge (R27) for the full duration of the project.
‘The Marine Drive Link Bridge’s northbound joint needs to be reinstated. These repairs are necessary in order to improve the lifespan, safety and operational standards of the bridge. The repairs will also assist with helping heavy duty vehicles and other public vehicles to cross the bridge safely. Please expect partial lane closures during the course of these repairs,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Although the repairs are scheduled during the night, congestion can still be expected as traffic travelling in both directions will be affected.
The work areas will be demarcated on a nightly basis to regulate traffic flow through the affected area, with lane closures while repairs is in process.
Road users are urged to use alternative routes while construction is under way at night. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, lower speeds and pay attention to road signs. Be vigilant in and around the roadworks area.
